Lens Interchangeability

The ability to remove the lens of a camera and change or swap it as per our requirements is known as the Interchangeability of a lens. Interchangeability is not the unique property of SLR cameras whereas film cameras having viewfinder windows also exhibit this property. Modern studio cameras can be used with a variety of lenses. Swapping lenses lets you to change the reach ability of the camera. Interchangeable lens allows us to choose an optimized lens for a particular purpose.

For instance, consider the picture above. Here the set of trees are focussed here with a 27mm lens with zoom set to 18mm.

Now the same scenery captured with a 70mm lens equivalent to a 105mm telephoto lens enables us to view the two trees alone clearly

The 150mm lens used here gives us the same view as a 225mm telephoto lens. The cropped image enables us to see a single tree and some farm equipment in the background.
